So it's been a while...

As the title implies - it's been awhile since I've talked about this project.

You may have noticed (who am I kidding, probably not), that the game page updated without much fanfare - the screenshots look drastically different than the game I was working on back in 2020.
So, yeah, Duckboy got redesigned into something brighter, something more manageable long term - as the limited color palette got hard to work with considering the scope of the game... jeez, it feels like I've written this a thousand times before.
Anyway... Duckboy was my first project, and one that's special to me - and fittingly, it has been my most popular project with the most downloads and most external interest. Whether this was because it was conceived during the pandemic, when people had nothing to do but play silly games on the internet, the art style, the character, I don't actually know what drives interest to this project, it's difficult for me to conceptualize.

At some point during 2022 I got frustrated and stopped working with the redesign, and looking back now, I had alot done. The game itself had not been living up to the ideas and sheer amount of content in my head, and I got frustrated and let all that work go to waste for a long time. I wanted to give everyone who showed interest in my project something better than the game I was making, and unfortunately I didn't think I was capable of that, to be honest I'm still not . Although I do dev as a hobby - this is a bad way of thinking, it's easy to recognize but difficult to do anything about.

Not too long ago I released another project - Saga of the Moon Priestess - one that was arguably larger in scope than Duckboy, and one that was meant as a distraction from the frustration I felt with Duckboy at the time. I suggest you look at it, it's something I'm proud of. While that game released free, and while I do not regret that decision, I think the next step is to actually sell something I've made. In addition, finishing that project gave me a renewed sense of motivation to actually deliver on things I post about.

So that leads us here, to this post, today. Duckboy is going to get finished. The game will look and play like the screenshots above. Playing what I had (re)designed ~1 year ago was genuinely fun, and It's something I can now be proud of, and more importantly something I'm excited to share. So... yeah... I've rambled enough. I'm excited to start digging into this project again, reproach what I already have done with a slightly more experienced eye, and just generally finish this up, and ship it out to you all!

TL;DR Duckboy dev has started again.

EDIT* oh and one more thing, before I forget - If there's any interest, I can package what I have now into a demo. I would really love some feedback if there's any interest! Please let me know.
