True evil never stays dead! Explore a mysterious land cloaked in treasure and blood, as you jump, slash, and dodge your way through Avenis. Inspired by games such as Zelda II, The Battle of Olympus and Simon's Quest, Duck Boy will have you fighting your way through a modern interpretation of the now dead Platform-adventure genre.
As an ancient evil brings the world to the brink of ruin, a hero will rise from the charnel. Demons, undead, and corrupted beings roam free, feasting on the life of Avenis' once abundant populace. With flute and sword in hand, Duck Boy must find a way to put an end to his ungodly enemies once and for all.

A controller is recommended. There are keyboard controls, but everyone complains about them. Xbox and PS controller have been tested and both work fine. Select D-input, X-input in the options menu. Default is X-input. (WASD + SPACE + QE + KL keyboard controls)
Full Screen can be activated in game - just press start once you can control the character.

Hello, where is the demo?
apologies - after the game was picked up by a publisher the demo was taken down and will be replaced once it is super polished and ready!
Ooh...I just bought Saga of the Moon Priestess and then found this. This looks really neat; I hope it becomes available soon.

I cant seem to get past the first gate where you have to play your instrument, I do the tune it tells me to do but it says I did something wrong, can someone help plz?
careful of which notes you play - the gate opens when you are at full health
Yes it shows I have to do the 1 note, 2 note then 1 note but when I do that to heal nothing happens
look closely at the notes, the heal song uses all 3 notes to play. low, high, and medium
Theres 3? What button makes the medium note?(Also thanks)
assuming youre using a controller - three of the four face buttons are used to play notes (A,B,X on an X-box controller),
if youre using a keyboard - Space, K, L all play notes and have actions in the game.
Controls can be checked any time in game by pressing start (or enter) and tabbing over once, (right bumper, or "E" on the keyboard)
what are the controls?
E seems to do something but when trying to talk to people by pressing E, only a short text box or soemthign tries to open but immediately closes down before it is even fully displayed :-/
if you're using the keyboard controls:
WASD - move
SPACE BAR - jump/note1
K - attack/note2
L - dodge roll/note3
E (held) - Prepare flute/ tab right menu control
ENTER - Menu
Q - left tab over menu control
These can be checked anytime in game by pressing ENTER and then pressing "E" to tab over tot he controls
well, I got further than the castle scene at the start, where I was "stuck" the last time.
got to the save slime thing, also know how to use E and press a triple combination of the 2 notes stored behind the roll and th attack button.
(likely by presisng random notes) I got 2 entries in the menu for the song of life and song of memories.
but no matter how often i play either of these next to the save slime dude, my health doesnt seem to replenish and it doesnt seem to save either.
even though the birds above are literally singing these same notes...
what am I doing wrong thsi time? :-(

I really enjoyed the demo! It took me a bit to realize jump was a note but other than that I really enjoyed the music mechanic! The art is beautiful and so are the environments! I'm excited to see the full game!

Just played the demo, superb job. I’m really looking forward to this game. Some thoughts:
I have a few thoughts on the combat but this is totally subjective. As a fellow dev, I know it’s easy to tunnel-vision on a piece of feedback and try to “address” everything, but my opinion is just mine and it’s likely many others will have opposite or conflicting thoughts.
It felt a little stiff to not move at all during melee attacks. I think it’s common for melee attacks in other metroidvanias to have a tiny bit of forward momentum. Learning the spacing of my own attacks is definitely rewarding, but it felt a little awkward fighting the boss and feeling like many of my attacks weren’t connecting due to my spacing being just a tiny bit off; might have been helpful to have a small step forward when attacking while holding a direction.
For the boss fight, it felt like the windows for me to safely attack were a little short. In the end I just traded hits with the boss since the boss’s damage was low enough for that to work. The boss difficulty felt good for an intro boss (was able to win on try #1 but used all 3 heals). Also love the added lighting attack when the boss gets to half HP, I always love a good phase 2 mixup.
All-in-all this game looks great so far. The demo was a blast and I didn’t want it to end.
I’m really excited for this game. I really love what I saw so far and I’ll certainly buy it on release.

The demo was solid, and there's allot I liked, but a few things I noticed held it back from being really really great.

Really Good Stuff First: The exploration is really nice here. Not a ton of backtracking in minor areas, doesnt feel like a chore to explore. My favorite thing is still playing the music. Really like this mechanic, and somehow it just works. Adds tension to the boss fight especially when your trying to heal. I can see a ton of awsome potential for this.

Everything below is not a con, just things I think needed work overall.

Graphics: The art is good, but sometimes its a bit overwhelming and makes it hard to read the room, enemies coming at you etc. Because the colors in the background obscure the enemies somewhat. Mainly talking about the flying enemies here.
Combat: And when it comes to attacking, I'm not sure if it was intentional to allow the flying enemy get inside your sword swing, but they can, and not being able to defend yourself from above can get annoying somtimes. Maybe make the hitbox a bit bigger on the sword? Another thing I noticed is you cant hit two enemies at the same time. Again not sure if that was intentional or not. As for the boss, I liked his movesets, right in the middle for difficulty. My biggest problem with him is his center/weak spot is a bit to small, I dont even mind not being able to stand inside him without taking damage, as long as I'm able to hit him without being a pixel perfect distance.
Movement: The issue I have here is the speed of the character feels to fast, just a little. The roll could stay the same, being its the same speed as the walk.

Bugs: Only one bug, that I could find, when I went back to the knight "after I'd already beaten the demo" in the beginning and talked to him I got stuck in a loop of diolague that I couldnt exit out of. Also Enemies can still attack you while the "you collected an item" box is up.
Anyways, Awesome Demo, really liked it and can't wait to see more from this game.

Definitely going to take a look at those bugs as well as add some iframes for events when the character movement gets frozen
That final boss killed me multiple times but I overall enjoyed this game. It was absolutely beautiful and I hope to see more despite my poor platforming skills.

the bg traps sometimes blend to well whit the bg it can be complicated for noobs where to go next since bg blends very well whit the area elements on where to jump or not the controls work very well here is my run no boss damage
Thanks for the feedback! great job on the playthrough too! Keyboard controls are something that are still being considered at this time, I realize alot of people dont like using the arrow keys and to be honest the "WASD" setup was rushed. Controller is the best way to play the game.

The pixelart is AMAZING!
I love the feel of the game so much, the green-white-dark_green palette combined with the soundtrack makes it a great gaming experience!
And well, the sounds of dying goose will haunt me forever I guess. :D
(Also I didnt seem to find a fullscreen option, did I miss it or is it not yet implemented in the game ?)
Anyway, keep up the good work! Can't wait for the full game to come out! (and I am yet to finish the demo)

It's a nice and cool game, although the direction we must go is kinda confusing, similar to Castlevania, but in Castlevania there are a lot of new and interesting things to do, so even though you're lost, you still feels interested. I recommend playing Symphony of the Night or Aria of Sorrow for reference.
Also for a demo, its kinda too long. But that's okay.

indeed - also just an FYI - walking through the checkpoints saves the game! if you hit "Continue" from the main menu next time you boot up youll start back at the last checkpoint - would love to see what you think of the boss :)

great job! Thanks for going back and finishing it up, not sure if you realized it but jumping + dashing over the boss' horizontal laser is a great way to extend your air time instead of just trying to jump over it. Either way you were practically a pro at that fight by the 7th time!
Oh. I forgot about that. Just like I keep forgetting that I can dash through spikes....
